Intermittent Fasting is the Entrepreneurs’ Cheat Code. I’ve Just Completed My 250th Fast. Here’s What I Learned.
Jack Dorsey (Twitter), Phil Libin (Evernote) and Daniel Gross (Y Combinator) are all successful entrepreneurs who swear by intermittent fasting (IF) as a lifestyle choice.
Eating within a restricted timeframe each day is a new concept in the West, where for years we’ve been told to eat 3 square meals a day. However, fasting has been followed by many ancient cultures for centuries.
After doing my own research, I started my first fast in 2020 and it’s now a way of life for me.
Here’s why;
#1 Health is Wealth
As you grow your business, it’s easy for your personal health to get pushed down your priority list.
Time can be limited and the temptation to snack when you get hungry is ever-present. Research has shown that the simple act of eating within a limited timeframe has significant health benefits and gives your body time to process and recover.
#2 Mental Clarity
When there’s a lot coming at you, you need to be sharp, focused and alert every day.
After completing a few fasts, I felt the mental fog lifting, my memory improving and I was in a better mood. Decision making became easier.
#3 Simplicity
One decision removes 1,000.
Before IF, I would think about eating through the day. What would I have for breakfast? Will I buy a sandwich for lunch? Are we eating out after work?
I moved to One Meal A Day (OMAD) and all the other decisions and distractions were eliminated. Simple.
#4 Living Longer
IF promotes a process called autophagy.
In simple terms, after an extended period when the body hasn’t had to process food, it gets to work on clearing up the accumulated debris. It clears out damaged cells and replaces them with new, healthy cells.
Studies have shown that this process can reduce disease and therefore extend life — and who doesn’t want to live a long and healthy life?
